Why I Started Road Trip Hire

Founder: Richard Brooker

A love of British family holidays to Devon, Cornwall, Wales, the Lake District and the New Forest is what inspired me to start Road Trip Hire.
Sometimes, the best trips are on your doorstep – with cosy British pubs, wild beaches, beautiful countryside and lush woodland all just a drive away.
My happiest childhood memories are from these trips, and so I wanted to create that for other families too.

Creating Memories on the Road

Every summer, while many of my friends were flying off to Greece or Mallorca, my family were up before sunrise packing the car for another camping trip somewhere in the UK. At the time, I have to admit I was a little jealous.

How wrong I was.

Some of my happiest memories were made on those holidays. Running across beaches with our dog, exploring forests, discovering hidden coves and finishing the day in a cosy village pub that my dad somehow always managed to find. Whether we were in Devon, Cornwall, Wales, the Lake District or our favourite place of all, the New Forest, every trip became an adventure.

Those trips gave me a love of Britain’s countryside and a respect for the places that make it so special.

That love is what inspired Road Trip Hire.

Epic European Road Trips

As part of my working life, I have found myself driving all over Europe and beyond, taking in the great cities of Italy, Spain, Germany and France. Stopping at quaint villages, epic beaches and gigantic mountains.
Then, on my honeymoon, my wife and I went on the best adventure, travelling around Europe, exploring so many places. There are so many highlights we will never forget. The Mediterranean coastline, the Italian lakes and being in Switzerland, sitting by Lake Walensee with a hot chocolate, listening to the cowbells clanging. With this driving background and love of a good road trip, we started Road Trip Hire to help you have magical holidays.

We believe some of the best holidays don’t involve airports or long queues.

We’re also passionate about supporting local communities.

Every trip helps independent cafés, pubs, campsites and small businesses that are the heart of our villages and seaside towns. Looking after these places matters, because once they’re gone, they’re incredibly difficult to bring back.

We’re committed to travelling responsibly too. Every one of our campervans is equipped with solar power, allowing you to spend more time off-grid while reducing your reliance on campsites and generators. It’s about enjoying the outdoors while leaving as little impact as possible.
